It is often overlooked by tourists who tend to stay only within the central part of town, yet it is only a few blocks from the Malecon - just over the River Cuale bridge. This part of town has a unique charm and character of its own. The main streets, Olas Altas and Basilio Badillo, offer cozy restaurants and bars, trendy boutiques and abundant nightlife. The south side is also home to Puerto Vallarta's most famous beach, Playa Los Muertos, where both locals and vacationers enjoy the surf, the sand, and the many palapa restaurants that occupy this strand that stretches for a mile south of the Rio Cuale. With so much going for it, there's no wonder why so many expatriates choose to live in the beachfront condos and traditional Mexican style homes that can be found on the cobblestone streets of this friendly neighborhood.
